Planer blades HSS/CARBIDE MACAW

It is a steel blade with a sharp knife at the end It is a component of the planer, which is the planing of the workpiece surface to be a smooth plane in either vertical, horizontal or inclined angles. It is also planing to form a curved surface, but the technician must have a certain level of skill. Planing will have a rough surface. Also,it depends on the feed rate knife sharpness and angle. The workpiece may be firmly fixed to the planer table stand. Or fix it with a clamp that is fixed on the tabletop.

TRICK : Compare the cutting speed of each type of planing knife or planer blade.

Knife type Cast iron Brass Mild steel
cutting speed cutting speed cutting speed
Planer Knife HSS 18 49 15
High Carbon Planer Knife 9 30 8
Carbide planer knife 3 30 45

TRICK : Compare the feed rate of each type of planer or planer blade.

Knife type Cast iron Brass Mild steel
feed rate feed rate feed rate
Planer Knife HSS 2 1.3 1.3
High Carbon Planer Knife 1.5 1.3 1
Carbide planer knife 0.12-0.50 0.01-0.38 0.12-0.50

Working of a planer or planer blade

Planers or planers work by moving forward and back and forth. But the planing takes place only during the stroke of the knife moving forward. The planing will produce scraps like any other turning or trimming. As for the stroke of the knife moving backwards, it is the rhythm that must be entered to work. By moving the planer table by hand or using automatic feeding according to the set feeding distance.

The reason for the inaccuracy of the planing work

The main reason is usually the setting of the planer that is not precise enough. In order to reduce the problem of inaccuracies in each planing, the following considerations must be made:

1. The mouth of the clamp is perpendicular to the level or not.

2. The bottom part of the clamp says Can I get a level?

3. Installing the scene sheet Always check for accuracy first.

4. Is the work clamp parallel to the direction of the planing knife or planer blade?

5. Is the work clamp perpendicular to the direction of the planing knife or planer blade?

Calculation of speed and planing time

The planing speed will depend on

1. The type of material to be planed.

2. The amount of metal to be removed

3. Type of planer or planer blade

4. Size of the machine

And calculate only the planing The commonly used ratio is 1.6 to 1 (or 3:2). The proportion of time between forwards and backwards is reversed. it will vary depending on the type of machine and the size of the stroke.

Calculation example :

1. Time to use a planer blade to plan the wood.

Use the formula W / fN (W = width of the planing workpiece. f=feed rate N=number of planing times per minute)

W=50 f=0.2 mm. N=59 beats per minute.

= 50 / 0.2x59.04 =4.23 minutes

2. Number of times of planing per minute

Use the formula N=615 V/L ( V=Speed of the HSS planer blade. L=the length of the material to be planed) By setting V= 24 m/min, L=250 mm.

=615 x 24/250 = 59.04 beats per minute

3. Amount of metal that can be planed per minute Use the formula f x d x N x L.

(f=feed rate d=planing depth N=number of planing times per minute L=the length of the material to be planed)

f=0.2 mm/stroke d=2 mm N=59=stroke/min L=250 mm.

=0.2 x 2 x 59 x 250 = 5900 mm/min = 5.9 cm/min

Chamfering wood planer blades

The planer blade is made of steel with a sharp edge, which has an angle of 30 degrees. Sharpening only one side with a sharp edge using a cup stone.

Precautions for use of planing blades

1. While using, be careful of the blade of the planer, the knife is sharp because it may cut your hand.

2. Please be careful not to let the planing blade fall onto the ground as it may break, damage or hit your feet.

3. After use, should clean the planer blade and apply oil.
